My famous homemade shepherds pie

Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef or lamb
1 large onion, chopped
2 carrots, diced
1 cup peas
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
2 lbs potatoes, peeled and quartered
1/2 cup milk
4 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:
Cook up the ground beef, onion, carrots and celery until the veggies are tender and beef is browned. Drain any excess grease. Stir in the tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings. Simmer for 10 minutes.

While the filling simmers, peel and cube 5 medium Russet potatoes. Boil them until fork tender, then mash them up real nice and smooth. I mix in a little milk, butter, and garlic powder.

To assemble: pour the beef mixture into a casserole dish. Top with the mashed potatoes, spreading evenly to the edges to seal it. Brush the top with a little melted butter.

Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes until piping hot and the potatoes get a little crispy on top.
