Bananas Foster French Toast
Ingredients:
1 large loaf of challah bread, cubed
7 eggs
1 cup milk
⅔ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
Caramel Sauce:
3 bananas, sliced
½ cup butter (1 stick)
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon cardamom
Instructions:
Prepare the Baking Dish:
Grease a 9×13 baking dish and set it aside.
Make the Caramel Sauce:
Place a small saucepan over medium-high heat.
Add butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Cook until the sugar is dissolved, stirring often.
Remove from heat and stir in cinnamon and vanilla extract.
Pour the caramel sauce into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
Arrange the banana slices over the caramel sauce.
Assemble the French Toast:
Evenly distribute the cubed bread over the bananas in the baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, and cardamom.
Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes.
Press down the bread with a spatula to ensure it absorbs the egg mixture.
Chill:
Cover the baking dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Bake:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Remove the dish from the refrigerator and bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Serve:
Slice the French toast into pieces.
Flip the pieces so the caramel sauce and bananas are on top.
Enjoy!
