**Ingredients:**

– 8 slices of sandwich bread
– 8 slices of ham
– 200g grated Gruyère cheese
– 4 eggs
– 200ml milk
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– 2 tablespoons butter

**Instructions:**

1. **Preheat the oven** to 180°C (350°F).

2. **Assembling the croque-monsieur:**
Place 4 slices of sandwich bread on a baking sheet. Place a slice of ham on each slice of bread, then sprinkle with grated Gruyère cheese. Cover each sandwich with another slice of sandwich bread to form the croque-monsieur.

3. **Preparation of the mixture:**
In a bowl, beat the eggs with the milk, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the croque-monsieur, making sure to soak them well.

4. **Baking:**
Add a small knob of butter on top of each croque-monsieur. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the croque-monsieur are golden and crispy.
